A Newton elementary school was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon while police served a search warrant.
Around 12 p.m., officers with the Newton Police Department went to a house on Windsor Drive near the school to locate a suspect wanted for domestic battery. The suspect then ran out of the home.
Because the house was in close proximity to Northridge Elementary School, the doors were locked for a short time and the school was searched by officers.
The man turned himself in to police around 2 p.m. and was then released to the Wichita Police Department for further investigation.
