The Star Spangled Salute is presented by

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Veteran Amy Hess.  After 22 and a half years service she always had an evacuation bag.  Amy said she was always ready to leave.  It wasn’t until she was standing in the middle of  her pasture, 7 years after service, that she realized she didn’t need to go anywhere anymore.  Amy started and found joy in her small, diversified farm with heirloom breeds of pigs, chickens, ducks and turkeys; a few acres of hay and pasture; large garden; and big future plans. “I’m working toward self-sufficiency. It’s a lifestyle for myself and my family,” she said.  Amy credits the Farmers Veteran Coalition with making her farm and this new lifestyle possible adding,  “It’s very important to be part of something bigger than yourself.”  Congratulations on you farm Amy and THANK YOU for your service.
