Candidates file for Wichita city council, school board races

Wichita City Council members will face challengers in the 2021 city elections.   After the filing deadline Tuesday, there were 15 candidates competing for three open seats on the council.

Vice Mayor Brandon Johnson filed for a new term in District 1, and he will be challenged in the general election by conservative activist Myron Ackerman.

District 3 council member Jared Cerullo is facing six challengers in the August primary election.   Jason Carmichael, Jerome Crawford, Ian Demory, Mike Hoheisel, Tevin Smith, and Cindy Miles have filed for the seat.

In District 6, incumbent Cindy Claycomb is being challenged by Maggie Ballard, Martin Garcia, Loren John Hermreck, Jr.; Dereck Reynolds; and Andy Speck.

There are ten candidates who have filed for four open seats on the Wichita Board of Education, and the races will be decided in the November general election.

Incumbent Ben Blankley is being challenged in Ward 1 by Diane Albert.

Incumbent Julie Hedrick in Ward 2 will be challenged by Brent Davis and Justin Bjork.

Incumbent Mia Turner is being challenged by Kathy Bond in Ward 5.

In Ward 6, incumbent Ron Rosales is being challenged by Hazel Stabler and Holly Terrill.

The primary election will be held August 3rd, and the general election is November 2nd.
