On Friday, The Kansas Supreme Court affirmed the judgement against a man who was sentenced to life in prison for the 2017 rape and attempted murder of a 7 year old girl in Wichita.

Corbin Breitenbach filed to appeal his case in 2018 after a jury found him guilty of attempted capital murder, aggravated criminal sodomy, and aggravated burglary. Investigators for the case said Breitenbach had raped and nearly strangled the girl to death. DNA evidence linked Breitenbach to the crimes, and played a large role in the prosecution.

Breitenbach served as his own attorney in the appeal.

The Kansas Supreme Court said it affirmed the judgement of the Sedgwick County District Court after Breitenbach appealed its denials of his requests for independent DNA testing, new counsel and standby counsel.
