Winter weather affecting local schools, events

Winter weather affecting local schools, events

A number of closings are being reported from this week’s winter storm that brought snow and bitter cold temperatures.

–The Sedgwick County Zoo will be closed through Thursday, February 18th, and it is scheduled to reopen Friday.  Zoo employees will still report to work to care for animals and take care of daily activities.

–O.J. Watson Park in Wichita is closed through Thursday to conserve power, along with public library branches, CityArts, the Old Cowtown Museum and the Mid-America All-Indian Museum.

–Wichita Public Schools will have all remote learning on Wednesday, February 17th.   All students will log onto Teams at their school’s start time.  Meals will be available for pick up from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Morris Administrative Center at 903 South Edgemoor and at the School Service Center’s Food Production Center at 37th Street North and Hydraulic, entering from 37th.   Athletic competitions and practices for Wednesday will be held as scheduled.

–USD 470, Arkansas City, students will learn remotely Wednesday.   All students will be learning in person four days a week starting Thursday, February 18th.

–USD 465, Winfield, will have in person learning with a two-hour delay on Thursday.   Morning preschool is cancelled.

–Wineteer Elementary School in Derby will be in remote learning for Thursday, because of a water main break.   All other Derby schools will have in-person learning.
