The city of Wichita is asking for proposals for the purchase and redevelopment of an 18-acre property near Kellogg and Webb Road.
The city purchased the property as right-of-way for the East Kellogg Freeway project, but the land is no longer needed with the completion of a section of the project at Webb Road.
Gerri Ford, a real estate analyst with the city’s economic development department, said the land is on the north side of Kellogg and it represents an opportunity for the real estate community to come up with a plan to redevelop the property. She said depending on how the proposals are structured, “we could see anything from office, hotel, retail or maybe even a lifestyle type center.”
The city plans a conference with interested developers on April 1st, and proposals will be due by May 14th. A review committee will look over the proposals and select qualifying proposals for interviews.
Mayor Brandon Whipple said the city will be looking for a developer who can provide a mixed-use project with tangible public benefits, and who can begin construction within the next two years.
The RFP (request for proposals) can be seen in the Economic Development section of the city’s web page at www.wichita.gov
