Wesley Medical Center in Wichita has received its first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19, and the first shots were administered on Tuesday.
A vaccination clinic was prepared and staffed before the arrival of the vaccine, and a number of Wesley doctors and nurses received the first doses. Wesley employees are in a tiered system based on exposure to COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Clinical staff in the COVID units and other high risk areas have been chosen to receive the first vaccine doses.
Wesley staff are registering for vaccination appointments under an electronic system that will help the hospital track and report on the employees who have been vaccinated.
Staff at Ascension Via Christi’s St. Francis hospital began receiving their vaccine shots on Monday.
