Three aircraft from McConnell Air Force Base and the restored B-29 aircraft known as “Doc” flew over Wichita and other communities Wednesday morning in a tribute to first responders and health care workers who have been fighting the spread of the coronavirus.
The planes took off from the base around 10 a.m. and flew over Newton, then went south to Wichita. People gathered on rooftops and in parking lots to watch the planes fly over.
Two KC-135 Stratotankers and the new KC-46 Pegasus tanker flew over the area along with “Doc.” The flyover was part of Operation America Strong, which has had aircraft conducting flyovers across the country. The planes also flew over Derby, Newton, Andover, Garden Plain, Haysville and El Dorado.
