Butler Community College has announced that all of their summer classes will be online.

It’s part of what’s being called the SummerPlus Initiative.  Students who take six or more credit hours in the summer 2020 semester will receive three free credit hours of tuition for the following fall semester.

It applies only for the 2020 fall semester.

“That’s equivalent to one class closer to a degree,” said Lori Winningham, Butler vice president of academics in a news release. “I hope through multiple efforts, students and dislocated workers can get to their goals. Everyone is going through a difficult time right now, and I hope this can help students stay on track and others get started with their education.”

The school says for the safety of students, faculty and staff, the decision was made to move all summer courses at Butler online.  In addition, BCC will be offering 10 new online degree programs this fall, including associate of science degrees in Agribusiness, Agriculture and Elementary Education, and associate of arts degrees in Foreign Language, History, Philosophy, Religion, Economics, Psychology, and Sociology & Social Work.

The change means 21 degrees will be available for online only students.  The school also offers numerous general education courses online that meet state regulations for transferability to any Kansas university.
