The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said a suspect has been arrested for the shooting death of a Catholic priest in the northeast part of the state.
The shooting was reported in Seneca around 2:50 p.m. Thursday at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church rectory. Officers from the Seneca Police Department and Nemaha County sheriff’s deputies found 57-year-old Father Arul Carasala outside the residence with gunshot wounds. He died later at a hospital.
Kansas Highway Patrol troopers helped to secure the scene, and law enforcement officers later arrested a 66-year-old man from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was booked into the Nemaha County jail on suspicion of first degree murder.
The investigation is continuing and no further details have been released.
