Today, we celebrate all the women who shared the identity of “Rosie The Riveter” during World War II, like Wichita’s own 100-year-old Connie Palacioz. A hero’s welcome greeted 18 women like Connie recently at the National World War Two Museum. They were there to be honored as Congressional Gold Medal recipients. Jane Tucker and the other women got a tour of the museum before the ceremony. While looking at a picture of herself welding, Jane said that the women who helped supply the war effort opened doors for women in the labor force. She said they worked ten-hour days, at least six days a week. Jane was one of an estimated 5 million civilian women who worked in the defense industry and elsewhere while men were fighting overseas. Thank you, ladies, for all you did for the war effort, and to Connie and Jane and all the “Rosie the Riveters,” THANK YOU for your service.
