Today, we salute Air Force Veteran Heather Wilson. Military service was in her blood. Her Grandfather served in the U.K., before moving to the U.S. Her dad, also served. So, in 1975 when President Ford signed legislation to allow women to enter military academies, Heather applied to the Air Force Academy and was accepted. Wilson was an Air Force officer from 1982 to 1989; during that time, she served in Plans and Negotiations at RAF Mildenhall, England, and at the Office of Defense Plans as part of the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels. She held the position of Director for Defense Policy and Arms Control on the National Security Council staff from 1989 to 1991, serving under President George H.W. Bush. Today, Heather serves as the President of the University of Texas at El Paso. She is on the boards of Lockheed Martin Corporation, Google Public Sector and Texas Space Commission, and she is a member of the National Science Board Class of 2020-2026.  Thank you for sharing your story Heather and THANK YOU for your service.
