Today, the awesome is in New Boston, Michigan. Jackie Dennis, a special education teacher, recently led her class in crafting comfort blankets for families of organ donors. After her successful double lung transplant, Dennis felt immense gratitude for her new life, although she was also acutely aware that her joy stemmed from the tragic loss of another family. She has also fostered a deep connection with the family of her lung donor, allowing her to share updates about her life and her daughter and showcase the value of that life-saving gift. In organizing the blanket-making workshop, Dennis aims to bridge the emotional gap often felt by donor families, who may have little to no contact with the recipients of their loved ones’ organs. She believes these blankets can symbolize warmth, comfort, and gratitude, helping recipients convey their appreciation to families who have endured great loss. Gratitude, Comfort, and lifelong bonds, THAT’S AWESOME.
