Butler County and Sedgwick County fire crews were on the scene of a three-alarm fire Thursday evening at a rural home northeast of Rose Hill.

The fire was reported around 6 p.m. in the 13,200 block of Southwest 140th.  Crews reported flames coming from a 1,500 foot home and about 40 percent of the structure was involved.   Crews had to go to defensive operations, staying outside the home to put water on the fire.

Butler County Fire District 3 officials said cold temperatures made fighting the fire extremely difficult. Due to two Tenders/Tankers freezing to the point of inoperability, a third alarm was requested, bringing additional tankers and firefighters from Butler County Fire District # 7 in Benton.   Crews from Augusta, Sedgwick County and Derby were also called to the scene.   The fire was under control in about an hour and the cause is under investigation.

There were no injuries reported to the residents or to firefighters.
