The Humane World for Animals organization said more than 400 roosters and hens were found at the scene of an alleged cockfighting operation west of Mulvane. The organization has been working with the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation.
Humane World officials said the birds were found Tuesday in small wire or wooden structures that had little protection from freezing temperatures. Some of the birds had apparent respiratory illnesses and at least two had open wounds. Veterinarians euthanized the birds at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is continuing and no arrests have been made.
