Today, we salute Army Veteran Vera Howard. Vera spent four tours and 25 years in the Army. During that time, she was on active duty, in the guard and a reservist. Most importantly, her peers say she exemplifies courage through kindness. Howard is a Peer Specialist for the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) at the Atlanta VA Health Care System. She leads a crochet group because she knows it’s a skill that helps. Vera says she turns to crochet when she needs comfort, to think, to problem-solve, or to feel peace. She says it’s a “safety thing.” Now, she’s helping other Veterans discover the benefits. Crochet can be done at the doctor’s office or to help in groups when discussing triggers. Vera says, “Every day is an opportunity I can help. You never know if you might miss an opportunity. If I can help, I will.” Thank you for helping so many, Vera, and THANK YOU for your service.
