Wichita Mayor Lily Wu said the city is working with local organizations to develop permanent memorial to the victims of the January 29th plane crash in Washington, D.C.

During her weekly news conference Thursday, the mayor said a number of community partners are involved in discussions, including Visit Wichita, the Wichita Foundation, and the Wichita Ice Center.  She said it will take time to put together details.

A temporary memorial is set up at Eisenhower National Airport where people can leave notes expressing condolences to the families of the crash victims.  Mayor Wu said the memorial will be in place for two weeks, but it could be in place for a longer time.

The mayor expressed thanks to the community, airport staff, Visit Wichita, the American Red Cross, the Wichita Foundation and other organizations for their efforts in providing support to those affected by the tragedy.  She said the city is looking to honor the lives of the 67 victims and provide support to their families.
