An Arkansas City man was killed and two other people were injured in a head-on crash Tuesday morning in Cowley County.
A pickup and an SUV collided shortly before 10 a.m. on Highway 77 near 71st Road south of Winfield. The driver of the pickup, 91-year-old Walter Thurman of Arkansas City, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office said the driver of the SUV, 32-year-old Alexis Smith of Arkansas City, was taken to a hospital with a juvenile passenger, and both were described as having severe injuries.
The crash is under investigation.
