The Sedgwick County Election Office is reminding voters in the Wichita school district of some critical dates coming up for the school bond election on February 25th.
The election will affect about 60 percent of county residents. Voters have to live within the boundaries of USD 259 in order to cast a ballot. A district map is available on the county’s web page at sedgwickcounty.org
Important dates to remember:
- February 4 – Last day to register to vote in the USD 259 Bond Election
- February 5 – Advance ballots begin mailing
- February 18 – Advance in-person voting begins at Election Office
Last day to request advance ballot to be mailed - February 20 – Advance in-person satellite voting centers open
- February 25 – Election Day, with new polling site hours: 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Voters will decide on a proposal that will provide funding to update classrooms and address critical needs with aging roofs, heating and cooling systems, and accessibility, along with safety and security improvements. The bond issue will keep the mill levy at the same level, so it will not increase the tax rate.
The school district has started a series of open houses to provide more information to the public on the bond issue, and each one will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
