The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is looking into a fatal officer-involved shooting in Grainfield, in western Kansas.
Gove County deputies were sent to a home on West 3rd Street around 7:45 a.m. Friday on a report of a disturbance. The deputy encountered two men who were in a heated argument. He gave orders to one of the men to get down, and the man complied but then got up and tried to leave. The deputy used a Taser, which was not effective, and the man charged the deputy, striking him in the head, face and body. The deputy pulled a gun and fired one shot, striking the man.
The KBI said 30-year-old Ty Kaiser was taken to Gove County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The deputy and a 63-year-old man related to Kaiser were taken to a hospital for treatment. The deputy was released Friday afternoon and the other man was transferred to a Hays hospital for further treatment.
The KBI said the results of the investigation will be presented to the Gove County Attorney.
