Kansas Senators Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall said the NTSB report will be necessary for congressional investigations into the crash. Senator Moran said it will be important to hear from the Defense Department on the Army helicopter.

During a Zoom briefing with Kansas reporters Thursday afternoon, Marshall said he was disturbed by the lack of connection between the transponders of the American Airlines jet and the Army Blackhawk helicopter, so they would be aware of each other’s location.

Marshall and Moran said they have talked with officials from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.   Moran said they want to make sure that everything that can be done will be done to make sure flying is safe.  Moran chairs a subcommittee on aviation in the Senate Commerce Committee, and he said the subcommittee will take the lead to make sure those steps are taken.
