Officials in eastern Kansas said the bodies of two children were recovered from a lake after they had been reported missing.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said two boys, ages 8 and 9, were reported missing around 8 p.m. Monday in the Lake Chaparral Community, and deputies were told the children had not been seen for several hours. Deputies called for help in the search and the Linn County Fire Department sent crews to the area. They determined that the children were last seen around the lake.
The Sheriff’s Office used a drone to search the lake, and the children were found in the lake, trapped under ice. The Overland Park Fire Department’s Dive Team was called to recover the children from the lake.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. The names of the two boys have not been released.
