The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a fatality crash that happened late Saturday night in Kiowa County.
The KHP said the crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Highway 54 about a mile west of Greensburg. Troopers found a stolen car that was going east on the highway, and the car and driver were being sought in connection with a homicide investigation in Anderson County. A trooper stopped the vehicle and after making contact with the driver, the car sped away, leading to a chase.
Kiowa County deputies used stop sticks on the vehicle, and a short time later, it went off the roadway into a south ditch, became airborne and rolled a number of times before coming to rest in a field.
The driver, identified as 55-year-old Jerry Wayne Thompson of Tidewater, Oregon, died later at a hospital.
The homicide remains under investigation by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
