A street in downtown Wichita has been renamed to honor the mother of an Olympic skating champion.
An “overnaming” ceremony was held Thursday at English and St. Francis, and that portion of English is named Donna Boitano Way, honoring the mother of Olympic skater Brian Boitano. The naming was announced in honor of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships that are underway this week at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Brian Boitano joined Wichita Mayor Lily Wu, Sedgwick County Commission Chairman Ryan Baty and other local officials for the naming. Donna Boitano was a native of Wichita, and local officials surprised Brian with the naming ceremony.
The Figure Skating Championships continue through Sunday.
