Today, the AWESOME is in Neenah, Wisconsin, and it’s another example of the fact that “not all heroes wear capes.”  To run toward danger and risk your own life for someone you don’t know is typically something we expect of first responders and our military. It’s a rare thing when it’s simply a good samaritan. On a frigid Monday night in Wisconsin, Tanner Ater heard a loud crash outside his apartment and rushed to see where it came from. When he came upon the scene, he said a car had collided with a fire hydrant and then rolled down an embankment, hitting a tree and then bursting into flames. Without thinking, Tanner rushed to help. Rescuing the woman first was easy, the husband who was trapped in the car was more of a challenge and Tanner said that if the police officer had not showed up, he would not have gotten the man out. Suffering minor frostbite on his hand on that 8-degrees-below-zero night, Tanner is hailed as a hero. Courage in the face of danger to save a life, Tanner, THAT’S AWESOME.
