The first hostages released by Hamas are being treated at a hospital in Tel Aviv. IDF officials say the three Israeli women appeared to be in good health after being released from captivity as part of a ceasefire deal in Gaza.
The three women Romi Gonen, Emily Damari and Doron Steinbrecher were released Sunday morning, and they will continue treatment at the hospital. The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that the three released hostages and their mothers “will be reunited with the rest of their families and receive medical treatment.”
Under the terms of the agreement between Israel and Hamas, the first phase will involve the release of 33 hostages in exchange for 19-hundred Palestinian prisoners. At least two Americans are among those expected to be released in the coming days. Around two weeks into the first phase of the ceasefire, negotiations will begin towards a permanent end to the fighting.
