Friends University has announced a collaboration between its students and faculty and the city of Belle Plaine on a revitalization project.
The Stronger Together campaign is aimed at redeveloping and improving key areas of the city, including the downtown district, Watson Park, and the historic water tower.
Guided by civic engagement, more than 20 Friends University students involved in the project will receive hands-on experience in research, design, project management and public speaking. They are reimagining the downtown district to improve functionality, appeal, and accessibility of key spaces in Belle Plaine, while maintaining the town’s heritage. The students in Business, Fine Arts, Humanities, and STEM will create an everlasting community through the project, while recording their experience with a short documentary style video.
The project offers significant value to the city of Belle Plaine, as experts estimate a market value between $80,000 and $150,000. The final designs will be unveiled during the city’s Spring Festival, scheduled for April 12th and 13th.
