A number of state highways that were closed due to snow and ice have now reopened in north central and northeast Kansas.

The Kansas Department of Transportation said Interstate 70 was reopened Monday after being closed from Ellsworth County east to Kansas City.

Sections of I-135, U.S. Highway 81 and and U.S. Highway 75 were reopening, and KDOT reported that parts of I-135, U.S. Highway 50, Kansas Highway 196 and Kansas Highway 15 in Reno, Harvey and Butler counties.

KDOT said motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and be prepared for changing road conditions as some highways remain icy and snow packed.  A Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter was used Monday to rescue some stranded motorists in north central Kansas, which had some of the heavier amounts of snow from the weekend winter storm.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority reported that its crews were making progress in clearing snow and ice on Monday, but drivers were urged to use caution and watch for icy spots.
