Wichita City Council members have approved funding to continue a program to pave dirt streets in neighborhoods across the city.
The city will be providing $2 million for the paving of 20 dirt streets in 2025. The Council approved a program in 2022 that placed a priority on dirt streets that are within about one block of schools, which was anticipated to take four years to complete. 2025 will be the third year of the program. The second priority is to make paving improvements in disadvantaged neighborhoods using data from the United States Census.
The streets to be paved in 2025 are in three City Council districts:

The 2025 funding is expected to pave about one and a half lane miles, or 2% of the City’s total inventory of 160 lane miles of dirt streets. The pavement will have an estimated useful life of 15 to 20 years.
