The death of a Wichita sailor in April has been determined to be a homicide, and another sailor has been charged in connection with the death at a Virginia base.

The U.S. Navy said 22-year-old Master-At-Arms Third Class Lyndon Joel Cosgriff-Flax was killed during a boating incident on the York River on April 28th.   The incident involved one of the harbor security boats at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Virginia.

Navy Region Mid-Atlantic said an unidentified sailor has been charged with negligent homicide, making a false official statement, and two counts of dereliction of duty.  A court proceeding has not been scheduled.

Cosgriff-Flax enlisted in the Navy in August 2021 and reported for duty at Yorktown in February 2022.
