Today, we salute Veteran Russell Davis. Russell is a native of Mexico, Missouri, and has often wondered why his town doesn’t have a bigger monument honoring Veterans. So, he decided to do something about it. Davis brought his concern to his fellow veterans at the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary Post 3772, and they agreed something needed to be done. They took their plans to the city, who agreed, and then the fundraising began. The fundraising was unofficially started around Thanksgiving when Russell’s granddaughter, who won a local competition and a prize of $200, donated $50 with a card that said thank you.
