Hunter Health has announced a partnership with Goodwill Industries in a project to build a new community wellness center in Wichita.
Hunter Health officials announced plans in October to build a $12 million facility on its Central Campus at Central and Grove. The goal of the center will be to improve the health and well-being of everyone in the community by bringing together partners to provide services that address not only health but also the socio-economic issues that affect health. These include access to education and employment opportunities, safe housing, nutritious foods and opportunities for social and community connection.
As part of the project, Goodwill Industries of Kansas will be relocating its NexStep Alliance program to the Community Wellness Center, offering GED and ESL classes.
Hunter Health CEO Amy Feimer said in a press release, “We know health is more than healthcare, so we are thrilled to partner with Goodwill on this important initiative. The NexStep Alliance, an adult education program partnership between Goodwill and WSU Tech, will play a key role in breaking down the educational barriers that many in our community face, and we’re excited to see the positive impact it will have on those we serve.”
Hunter Health is working to raise $5 million to match a challenge grant from the Mabee Foundation. More information on the campaign is available at the web site hunterhealth.org
