If you shop at ALDI, you know that 25 cents unlocks the shopping cart, but in this case, it also unlocked love. Charles Phillips and Holly Walker had a memorable first date that included a trip to ALDI because Holly was looking for a specific candle. Recently, to honor that first date, they announced their engagement on the ALDI Aisle of Shame Facebook page. A few days later, a representative from ALDI reached out to them, offering to serve them a celebratory 4-course meal in the aisle of their local store. The couple thought it was a joke, but it wasn’t. The sit-down dinner with candlelight and a waiter included grilled asparagus with melon, mozzarella, and prosciutto, followed by an arugula salad with citrus, avocado, and goat cheese. A bread course included “crusty bread” with honey butter, and for the entree, Aldi served short rib ragout with polenta and roasted Brussels sprouts. For dessert, salted caramel cheesecake. Dining in the aisle before walking down the aisle, THAT’s AWESOME.
