A Wichita man will have a jury trial in December for an incident where his 11-month-old daughter was found abandoned in the I-135 canal.

In a hearing Friday, a jury trial was scheduled for December 16th for the trial of 34-year-old Vincent Perez, who is charged with aggravated battery and aggravated child endangerment.

Investigators said Perez tried to suffocate the child at a friend’s house on July 22nd and then tried to choke someone who tried to stop him.  He was seen later pushing a stroller near Harry and Hydraulic, and he abandoned the baby at Linwood Park.   Someone saw the baby the next day in the canal near I-135 at Mt. Vernon.  She was found by police with sunburns and a scrape on her forehead and she was covered in mud.   Officers took the girl to a hospital, where bruises were found all over her body.
