Sedgwick County began a vote canvass Thursday of the November 5th general election, and about a third of the provisional ballots that were cast were rejected.

A Board of Canvassers met to begin considering over 8,000 ballots.  The board was made up of County Commission Chairman Ryan Baty, Commissioners David Dennis and Pete Meitzner, and County Clerk Kelly Arnold and assistant county manager Tania Cole.   Arnold and Cole were appointed to serve in place of Commissioners Jim Howell and Sarah Lopez.

The board approved 6,047 provisional ballots and rejected 2,491.   The ballots that were rejected were mainly because voters were not registered in the state of Kansas, not registered in Sedgwick County, or they didn’t have a valid ID.

The results will be certified when the canvass reconvenes Monday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m., and the official final results will be released after the canvass.
