Today, the Awesome is in Nevada. Students at UNLV, led by their professor, have created technology that harvests water from the desert. Professor H. Jeremy Cho and his students developed a new system that can capture at least five times more water than existing solutions, capable of generating 0.75 to 1.5 gallons of water per square meter daily in arid conditions. Cho’s design is inspired by nature, specifically, the hydrogel membranes found in frog skin and certain plants. Through their research, they hope to one day provide significant water supplies for desert regions and potentially produce drinking water or green hydrogen fuel. Science that’s good for the planet, THAT’s AWESOME.
