Wichita police are warning residents about an apparent scam that has people standing in medians and at intersections around the city, raising money for a young girl named Carla who died of leukemia.
The Police Department said in a social media post that officers questioned one man who said that Carla was his niece, but he couldn’t provide any additional photos of her. He said he came to Wichita from out of state on the suggestion of a friend. An investigation found that Tulsa, Oklahoma police had reported a similar scam with identical signs but a different photo.
