A Wichita man has been sentenced to life plus 15 years in prison for the murders of his girlfriend and their daughter in 2020.

A judge handed the sentence to 29-year-old Daniel Lopez after guilty pleas for first degree murder and second degree murder.   Lopez will be eligible for parole after 50 years on the first degree murder count but if parole is granted he will then have to serve a 184 month sentence for the second degree murder conviction.

Lopez was arrested after the bodies of 24-year-old Mickayla Sorell and 8-year-old Natalya Sorell, were found at a home in the 4400 block of South Walnut.  They were found on March 30th, 2020, but it was determined they had been shot two days earlier.

The judge also ordered Lopez to pay $5,000 in restitution for funeral expenses for the victims.
