Butler Community College canceled classes for Tuesday afternoon and evening at its Andover campus because of a gas line leak.
Andover Fire-Rescue reported that an employee at the nearby Vornado plant was driving a forklift when it struck a gas line. The release of natural gas set off smoke alarms in the facility.
Vornado and several other businesses in the area of 13th and Commerce were evacuated while crews worked to shut off the leak. Andover Road was closed at 13th for a time. Employees at Vornado were allowed back into the facility after it was ventilated, and no injuries were reported.
The leak did not have an impact on Andover Public Schools.
