Today, the AWESOME is halfway around the world off the African coast of Guinea. When Gamai was one, she suffered terrible burns to her upper body and arms when a pot of boiling water fell on her. Unable to receive proper medical attention at the time, the scars made it impossible for Gamai to bend her arm for simple, everyday things that we take for granted, like hugs. A few years later, one of the ships from the international organization “Mercy Ships” arrived near her home, and when her mother found out, she saw this as an opportu nity. After a successful surgery and weeks of rehab, Gamai was able to hug her Mom for the very first time. Experiencing the power of a hug for the very first time THAT’S AWESOME.
