A Wichita firefighter was taken to a hospital after battling a house fire early Saturday in the south part of the city.

The Wichita Fire Department said in a social media post that the firefighter became ill while working at the scene of a fire in the 4000 block of East Ross Parkway.  He was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The fire was reported around 6 a.m.  Flames were coming from a single family home but crews found no one inside.   The cause is under investigation.
