A 27-year-old man was killed Saturday morning in a confrontation with police officers and Sedgwick County deputies near Maize.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said a man called 911 around 7:15 a.m. and threatened to shoot someone, and that led deputies and officers from several departments to the 6900 block of West Childs, north of the intersection of 45th Street North and Ridge Road.   They found a man wearing ballistic armor, and he was getting in and out of a car in the front yard of a home.   Around 8:15 a.m., he got out of the car and charged at officers, and several of them fired at him.    He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers from Maize and Valley Center were on the scene, along with deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers.   The Wichita Police Department is investigating the shooting.
