Red Cross workers from Kansas and Oklahoma have been sent to Florida to help with an expected massive relief operation from Hurricane Milton. The Category 4 storm was bringing winds of 145 miles an hour to Florida’s Gulf Coast.
About 15 workers from the Kansas-Oklahoma region traveled to Florida ahead of the storm’s expected landfall. They include veteran volunteers, staff members and brand new volunteers.. More disaster workers are expected to travel after Milton moves out of the area.
The workers will help with shelter and food after the storm. Several of the volunteers took part in shelter academies that were held last week. Other volunteers have been working in the Carolinas, Georgia and Tennessee to help victims of Hurricane Helene.
