Kansas corrections officials said a resident of the Wichita Work Release Facility died at his workplace on Thursday.
Corrections officials said 44-year-old Joshua Degroot was found unresponsive at his workplace in the community. Co-workers and then EMS crews provided medical treatment but Degroot was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be performed and the death is under investigation by the Wichita Police Department with assistance from the Department of Corrections.
Degroot was serving a 44-month sentence for two convictions of aggravated battery in Leavenworth County, Kansas.
