Wichita police said they arrested a striking worker at a Textron plant on Wednesday after the worker kept interfering with the flow of traffic.

Police said a 64-year-old Wichita woman had been warned twice on Wednesday morning about activities in the 600 block of North Webb Road that were blocking the flow of traffic, in violation of a city ordinance. When the woman again stepped into the roadway, she was arrested.

Police captain Aaron Moses said in a press release that police met with Machinists union leadership and Textron management before the strike to begin planning to maintain safety and order, and those discussions have continued during the strike.   He said the role of the Police Department is to ensure the safety of everyone, including strikers, and preserving order in the community.  Moses said in past strikes, there have been incidents of motor vehicle crashes causing death, and during the current strike officers have been called to collisions caused by strike activity.
