Yesterday marked the 7th anniversary of the Route 91 Festival shooting. The mass murder took 60 lives, injured almost a thousand, and changed the lives of thousands of others for life. Through all of this, 2 strangers met. Austin Monfort and Chantal Melanson were strangers that night, close to the stage during Jason Aldean’s set, when gunfire erupted. They fell to the ground, Chantal was freaking out, and Austin shielded her, grabbed her face, looked into her eyes, and said, “You need to stay calm if we are going to get out of here,” and then, like something out of a movie, he kissed her. Today, they are married with two children. A life-saving, life-changing, chance meeting and first kiss. THAT’S AWESOME.
