A second round of local consult meetings has been underway to get input on implementing the Kansas Water Plan.   The office of Governor Laura Kelly said the meetings are intended to build on the first round of meetings that were held during the summer.

Meetings have been held across the state during the past two weeks, and the final meeting will be in Wichita on Monday, September 30th from 9 a.m. to noon at the Wichita State University Hughes Metropolitan Complex at 29th and Rock Road.

There will be group discussions on several topics:

  • Updated investment scenarios based on feedback heard in round one;
  • What criteria are most important as investment strategies are evaluated to achieve the Plan’s long-term goals around aquifers, reservoirs, and water quality;
  • Setting objectives and identifying what Kansans think are reasonable actions to achieve them; and
  • Preferred revenue sources to meet the objectives.

Governor Kelly said in a press release, “Preserving the quality and quantity of our water is an existential issue for our state.  These meetings will help build a program that provides the collective, coordinated action on water conservation and quality that communities across Kansas need, in both the short and long term.”
