A Wichita woman has been sentenced to prison for the drug-related death of her 2-year-old son in 2019.

A judge sentenced 28-year-old Kimberly Compass to life in prison without parole for 25 years.   She was convicted in May, 2021 of first degree murder.

Police were called to the Sunset Motel in the 2300 block of South Broadway on May 31st of 2019, and they found 2-year-old Zayden Jaynesahkluah unresponsive.  It was later determined that he died of methadone poisoning.   Methadone is used to treat opioid addiction.

Compass asked for a new trial in 2023, but a judge denied that request.
