Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach has joined other attorneys general in challenging a recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The AAP has declared that puberty blockers are safe and reversible for children.  A coalition of 20 attorneys general, led by Idaho’s Raul Labrador, is demanding that the agency retract the policy statement.   They signed a letter demanding detailed information from the AAP regarding its communications and practices related to youth gender dysphoria and substantiation of the Academy’s claims regarding the safety and reversibility of puberty blockers.     The attorneys general said the policy statement could be a violation of consumer protection laws.

In a press release, Kobach said, “Parents should be able to trust that guidance from the AAP and its member pediatricians is rooted in safety and reality….A child changing his or her gender identity has long-term major medical and psychological ramifications.”

The states joining the letter include Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Texas and Nebraska.
