Sedgwick County deputies and Wichita police officers were on the scene in a south Wichita neighborhood where a shooting was reported Monday morning.
Sheriff Jeff Easter said a husband and wife got into a domestic dispute around 9:20 a.m. as they and their children were brought to Cessna Elementary School by a Lyft driver. The children went into the school and then the dispute broke out, and witnesses reported seeing the man shoot the woman and then chase her toward the school. A deputy arriving on the scene then shot the man after seeing him pointing a gun at the woman.
Easter said both suspects were in critical condition after the shooting.
Officers moved into the area and they were talking to a number of witnesses to gather more information. Easter said deputies were talking to the Lyft driver who took the couple to the school.
Cessna Elementary School, west of the shooting location, was locked down as a precaution but the school was not involved in the shooting. The school district issued a statement on social media:
